Plan finances for 12 weeks max. Tennessee ties Florida and North Carolina for shortest duration. Treat week one urgently, your runway is 12 weeks unless the state unemployment rate rises.
Register on Jobs4TN the same day. Tennessee blocks benefits until your Jobs4TN profile is complete. It's a separate step from filing.

Watch your jobs4tn.gov inbox. Tennessee sends fact-finding requests through Jobs4TN, often with short deadlines. Missing one suspends your claim.

Every state has a Governor's constituent services line, and they treat unemployment delays as a routine constituent issue. This works in every state. It is the single most effective workaround for phone-system gridlock that I learned through experience.
