If You Can't Get Through to NYS Unemployment, Call the Governor's Office

I want to share something that saved me weeks of frustration when I was trying to reach the NYS Department of Labor. Why this works: The Governor's Office has a direct line into state agencies that bypasses the public phone system. They deal with constituent complaints all day — this is literally what they're there for. You're not being sneaky or going around the system. You're using the system the way it's supposed to work. This tip works for other states too. If you can't get through to your state's unemployment office, Google "[your state] governor's office phone number" and call them. Explain that you've been unable to reach the Department of Labor. They will help you. Don't spend another day redialing. Make one call.
